The phrase comes from a short anonymous poem that circulated in pet-loss support groups in the 1980s: a meadow just short of heaven where pets wait, healthy again, until their person arrives. Some people find it comforting and some find it too soft. If you are not sure which camp the grieving person is in, the safe move is to let the dog’s name and dates carry the message and skip the phrase entirely — which is exactly what the engraved band does.
What to write on it
Two lines is usually right. The name, then the years.
